Iguanas are excellent swimmers and can hold their breath for up to 30 minutes. They can also jump from trees into water and use their tails to swim to escape.
Iguanas are also great climbers and can quickly move from branch to branch. Older iguanas often live high in the trees.
Iguanas communicate nonverbally with each other. They bob their heads slowly as a greeting, but bobbing their heads or tails quickly means they are upset.
Iguanas have a long lifespan, averaging 12–15 years, but can live up to 20 years or more in captivity.
