Meaning "near crested lizard," derived from the Greek para "beside" or "near," saurus "lizard" and lophos "crest" Parasaurolophus was one of the largest of all the duckbilled planteaters. Its jaw held more than 1,000 tiny teeth. The purpose of the snorkel crest was used as a trumpet that could blow a b-flat sound to warn others in a herd.
