Description

Narwhals are known for their tusks, which are actually teeth that can have up to 10 million nerve endings. All narwhals are born with two teeth, but their patterns change as they age. In males, the tusk protrudes from the upper left lip, and a 2020 study found that the size of the tusk is linked to sexual dominance.

Narwhals have never been successfully kept in captivity, so the only way to see them is in the wild. You can find them in the floe edge of Lancaster Sound and Baffin Bay in Canada's High Arctic.
