Description
Shiba Inus are an ancient breed of spitz that date back to the Jomon period (14,500 BC to 300 BC). Shiba Inus were originally bred in Japan to hunt both large and small game. Their keen sense of smell and hearing helped them flush out small birds and hunt wild boars. Shibas are very aloof and independent, and will follow you around the house out of curiosity rather than needing constant attention. Shibas have a unique howling vocalization, and are known for making sounds when they are excited or upset. You may have heard of the “Shiba scream,” a high-pitched noise that sounds like a shriek.
